Callahan Lodge History: Did you Know?
Dear Brethren:
For Lodge History, I respectfully remind you that we observe Memorial Day in the month of May. On May 8, 1942, our military forces became prisoners of war of the Imperial Japanese Army in the Philippines, thus resulting in the infamous Bataan Death March. Our Past Master (1960) Wor. Bro. John W. Joyce, a Navy Corpsman assigned to the United States Army, was a survivor of the Death March. He was beaten and tortured because he refused to denounce his Christian faith and his belief and love for Jesus Christ. Wor. Bro. Joyce passed away several years back. I cannot express the honor of having personally known Wor. Bro. Joyce
not only as a Brother Mason but as a true American Hero.
